To avoid fulfilling the prophecy that the party should not leave anything to eat and in significant quantities, a rational and planned plan is the best recommendation.
The key to avoiding binge eating is to plan. Food as gifts are decided before. And since we know how to take advantage of our budget, we can manage our menus.
According to the professionals, December is a very curious month.
The patients who attend for some reason to the consultation, to the mere mention of a routine and planned analysis, respond: “Not now because the holidays are coming”. What is special about two dinners that make us think of a debauchery of such dreaded consequences?

Beyond that you can not climb 10 kilos in two days, or double your cholesterol or blood pressure in one night, I see in this concern, as traditional as Christmas itself, some dangers: the prophecy fulfilled. With the usual extension of the period of indulgence that begins with lunches and dinners with friends, toasts and other celebrations, culminated with abundant dinners that continue until later lunches, all of December is transformed into an abundance of calories that would envy a king of antiquity.
And this happens because we accept the vicious circle: December is the month of the holidays, which we will then try to compensate. And that, of course, we never made it. Then, we eat everything we can because “they are the Fiestas”.
There are honorable exceptions and many people who do not get desperate to take advantage of the excuse, but there are definitely many who accept this moment of gastronomic abundance. 10 to 15 copious meals can accumulate a few kilos, but the worst is that you lose the notion of control that perhaps had been achieved with enough work.
What to do to enjoy without paying the price?
As each path begins with the first step, start by facing reality and elaborate a plan:
It seems very elementary, but in nutrition everything goes through planning. Make decisions as soon as possible. Being surprised is very dangerous, no one can refuse to eat the dish in front of you. If there are social commitments, of course, our ability to administer the menu is scarce. Therefore, the best strategy is to try a rational behavior.
Nothing different from what we would do with other aspects of the meeting: we think about what time to arrive, what time to go, who to sit, etc. The same thing works with food and drink: think for a few seconds about what to eat, how much is reasonable for us and we do our best to comply with the plan.
For big events like the Christmas Eve dinner, the Christmas lunch and its year-end twins, we can apply the same if we were invited. But if we organize meals at home, we have a higher level of decision: what and how much we cook.
The skinny healthy who do what they want, but as they are less and less, it seems advisable to adapt to the times that are happening and set aside banquets to set dinners and austere lunches. A little less spending on food that we can use in gifts, and if the pocket allows it, less quantity but of better nutritional quality.
Are we ten people?
Why cook 5 chickens if they reach 2 or 3? Is there a guest who can not miss the potatoes? Well, let’s add other salads so there are different options. Desserts can be made with fruit, after all, who does not like peaches in syrup, not to mention strawberries or cherries.
• Do you want cream? Well, one spoonful per person, we can always use the infallible phrase “We are taking care of ourselves”. All this takes us to the first step: planning. What we are going to eat at parties is like gifts, it was decided before. And just as we know how to take advantage of our budget, we can manage our menus to distribute calories with intelligence.
